Burning Man Festival – Out There Pics from the Black Rock Desert!

The Burning Man Festival is held in the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada every year, around the time of the United States Labor Day Holiday.

The main reason for the name is that a ritual is undertaken where a large wooden effigy of a man is set alight, providing a rather large source of marshmallow roasting heat.

Pretty much anything goes at the Burning Man Festival, which is described as a radical form of self expression.

Thousands of people attend each year, and now it’s a major international event.

Check out some of the characters that get dressed up for the Burning Man Festival (thanks to Katie from Tripbase for providing the photos).

They look a bit odd, but I’m interested in checking out the Burning Man Festival at the same time because of them!

If you want to find out more about the Burning Man Festival, check out the official website for a possible explanation of what it’s about, plus there are a couple of books – such as Drama in the Desert: The Sights and Sounds of Burning Man, and This is Burning Man: The Rise of a New American Underground.

I think the only way to find out is to actually experience it yourself!
