The Time Travel Funny Movie List
Here we go!
Idiocracy is a satirical science fiction comedy that doubles up as a social commentary as well. An “average American”, Private Joe Bauers, is selected by the Pentagon for an experiment involving a top-secret hibernation program. Unfortunately, someone forgets he’s only supposed to be hibernating for year, and he wakes up 500 years later. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down and stupid that he’s easily the most intelligent person alive.
For example, the United States President (with the great name of Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho) is a former porn star and professional wrestler. And crops are watered with a sport drink because ‘they need the electrolytes’.
It seems like Darwin’s theory of natural selection has backfired!
Hot Tube Time Machine is a pretty silly movie. Four longtime friends go away to a ski resort where they used to party and find themselves transported back to the year 1986 by a magical jacuzzi. All four are past their prime and their lives are in all sorts of stages of disrepair, hence they go back to the place of their glory days.
But after a night of heavy drinking in the hot tub, they wake up in the 1980’s. Determined not to make the same mistakes twice, the friends take full advantage of the unique opportunity presented to them, and create the lives they’ve always wanted.
Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey is a loose parody of the Terminator movies. A tyrant from the future called De Nomolos creates evil android doubles of Bill and Ted and sends them back to eliminate the originals.
The trailer is here:
In 1987, Air Force captain William “Buck” Rogers is testing the Ranger 3 spacecraft when a meteor storm damages the ship and freezes him, putting him in a state of suspended animation. The spacecraft for some reason returns to earth five hundred years later so he can thaw out a pit, but the planet has been trashed by a nuclear war. After Buck is revived, he tries to ajust to life in the 25th century and becomes the world’s greatest hero.
It’s not the actual plot that’s funny. It’s the special effects are hilarious. Like Star Wars on a budget.
Yeah baby! This movie is the second in the Austin Powers series, which is a great send up of all the James Bond movies (for example a villain in the James Bond movies called ‘Oddjob’ is named ‘Random Task’ in Austin Powers. In this movie, Dr. Evil is back and has invented a new time machine that allows him to go back to the 60’s and steal Austin Powers’s mojo, inadvertently leaving him “shagless”. The movie is Austin Power’s attempt to regain his mojo. Lots of great one liners, like from the villain ‘Fat Bastard’ talking about Mini me ‘Jesus Christ, he’s tiny! I’ve had bigger chunks of corn in my crap’.
