I was mucking about on Twitter the other day, and a bizarre thought popped into my head – can you imagine what would have been Tweeted if Twitter was around in ‘Analogue Times‘.
Actually, I remember Analogue Times during my lifetime! You know – things like record and cassette players, and where one had to actually go into the bank to withdraw money!
Oops, I’m showing my age!
But I was thinking – can you imagine if Twitter was around during some of the Explorer years, or through some of history’s major events?
The mind boggles.
Here are 10 examples (all under 140 characters in length), with theoretical Twitter Account Names:
- @Magellan – Ha, I was right – the world is NOT flat!

- @GenghisKhan - Looking forward to another great day of pillaging.
- @GeneralCuster – Where the hell did all those Indians come from? No LOL
- @MarcoPolo - What’s this long, skinny, hard wheat looking thing used for?
- @NeilArmstrong – I cnt txt thru ths thck spce glves.
- @ChristopherColumbus – I’ve found India! Woo Hoo!
- @FirstFleetConvict (when first seeing Australia) – Hot Tip to my friends in England – steal a loaf of bread!
- @ChineseWallBuilder – Are there any more Mongolian-proof bricks coming? I’ve run out!
- @Noah - Hey fellow Tweeters – what kind of umbrella can you recommend for a really heavy shower?
- @PharoahCheops – Looking foward to inspecting construction progress of some 3 dimensional triangles at Giza today.
This is the only the beginning – can you think of other moments in history (or ‘Analogue Times‘) and how Twitter could have been used to convey them? If so, leave your suggestion via a comment.

This is hilarious. As I teacher I can truly appreciate this! I would totally bring this into my high school classrooms and have them write their own out! The kids would love it too…we read a Facebook version of Romeo and Juliet after we read the actual play…it was great and helped the kids make some connections.

Ha Ha! Very funny. I have also read a Facebook version of Genesis (The Bible, not Phil Collins!) with God creating groups of Light, The Heavens etc. then becoming friends with Adam and Eve! Old and New makes for good humour!
