Unusual Travel Photo – Cow Beach

Posted on 13 August 2010 by anthony

Today’s Unusual Travel Photo is the Cow Beach, and it comes from Goa, in India, a place that is renowned for it’s tasty food.

This Unusual Travel Photo was sent to me via a friend via email.

We’ve heard all the stories about cows walking on the streets in India.  It seems to me they also like suntanning on the beach like us humans.

Here is the evidence below:

This picture is a carnivore’s delight if you’re the type who loves a big steak.  But cooking up these animals in India might make you a social pariah, considering cows are pretty much sacred there.

For those of you that are hungry, check out my piece about the great steak in South America, titled Don’t Cry For Meat Argentina.

From looking at this Unusual Travel Photo, I’ve just thought of a new market – Banana Beach Lounges for Cows.  I can just imagine them lying on their backs, chilling out, munching on their favourite piece of grass with one hoof, and their favourite martini in the other!

Anyway, enjoy this Unusual Travel Photo!

Auto Rickshaw – Family Transport

Posted on 10 May 2010 by anthony

The Auto Rickshaw is a common site on the streets of India.

The Auto Rickshaw is three wheeler motor vehicle used as popular form of Family Transport.  This includes amazing features like transporting entire generations in a single journey in a Motorised Vehicle designed to take only 2 passengers.

On first hearing, 3 wheels just sounds so much more unstable than 4 wheels.

I first think of the Blue 3 Wheeled Car that Mr Bean hates with a vengeance.  Here is an example:

Auto Rickshaws look like a tricycle powered by a lawnmower engine on it’s last legs.  You can read more about them at Wikipedia.  You can also see more about them from ThePlanetD who have travelled to India recently.

Throughout the world, there are various Masters of Transport and Logisitcs.

Scooters are a prime example.  Check out these photos from Indonesia – firstly, the Satellite Dish Transporter, and the Family Day Out.

But the Auto Rickshaw is probably the winner when it comes to unroadworthy forms of mass transport.

Check out this photo sent to me from a friend of an entire family stuffed into an Auto Rickshaw!

How many family members can you count?

I haven’t been to India yet, but I’m going to check it my dodgy travel insurance would cover injuries sustained from riding in one of these beasts.

Probably not.

Check out more at Transport in India.

So if you’re feeling adventurous, now you can risk your life in an Auto Rickshaw!

Bizarre Travel Photo – Best Menu Picture

Today’s Bizarre Travel Photo is the Best Menu Picture – the hand drawn breakfast menu.

It was sent to me from another travel addict friend, during his recent journey through India.

Check it out!

If you look at the top right hand corner of this Bizarre Travel Photo, I love the uplifting description on this Best Menu Picture – ‘Eat Healthy, Enjoy Holiday’.

I would have loved to have seen the Lunch and Dinner menus at this food joint!

But this is what I love about travelling the world – coming across unpretentious stuff like this.

What other Best Menu Pictures have you come across?

What Bad Traffic Looks Like

Posted on 30 January 2009 by anthony

Check out this Bad Traffic camera footage from India – it’s total chaos!

But somehow, it works – and probably gives evidence to support the ‘Chaos Theory’.  If you ever venture out into traffic like this, make sure you wear the brown underpants.

I haven’t been to India yet, but I’ve come across some shockers when it comes to Bad Traffic.

I’ve written about them in a piece titled ‘The Worst Drivers in The World.’

To find out more about driver psychology, check out Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What It Says About Us).
