Funny Bumper Sticker Quote from Africa – So True

Posted on 31 August 2010 by anthony

One other great thing that is both refreshing and frustrating is ‘Africa time’.

You could be waiting for 4 minutes, 4 hours, or 4 days (maybe 4 weeks sometimes) for a bus to leave!

But think about it – no one else in Africa is going to hurry and be stressed out, so why should you?

The below Funny Bumper Sticker Quote that I spotted in the Serengeti, Tanzania, says it all!

Air Lines – Funny Aircraft Paint Job from Kulula Air, South Africa

Posted on 27 August 2010 by anthony

Air Lines are an obvious form of transport that us Travel Addicts require to see this awesome world of ours.

However, most of the time, Air Lines tend to take themselves a bit too seriously.  Their paint jobs are usually pretty standard, and represent a ‘brand’ that represents something on the more serious side.

But an airline in South Africa has obviously thought ‘sod that’ and decided to use their sense of humour when painting the planes in their fleet.

Check out the funny ‘Flying 101′ livery from Kulula Air Lines.  Kulula is a low-cost South-African airline that pokes fun at itself!

The wide shot doesn’t really say much, but look at bit closer at how they’ve labelled the different sections of the plane!

As long as their safety record is OK, and they don’t resemble the 1980′s spoof Airplane, I’d like to fly on one of these Funny Air Lines!

2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup in South Africa – Top 5 Funniest, Offbeat and Unusual Moments

Posted on 09 July 2010 by anthony

With the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup drawing to an end, it’s time to have a look back at the most funniest, offbeat and unusual events that have happened over the last few weeks.

So after all the standard spectacular goals, the awesome diving by some players that could make the 2012 Olympics in London, here are my Top 5 Funniest moments at the 2010 FIFA World Cup!

1. The 2010 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony – The Dung Beetle

This is a WTF moment for me, but I love it as it shows the great African sense of humour.

It’s the giant dung beetle and large round ball of fake poo that appeared at the opening ceremony!  I laughed my head off when I saw this appear!

2. Germany Coach, Joachim Low, can pick his nose and eat it too!

They must not feed the German coach much – he has to eat his own snot during the games!  This footage has gone crazy all around the world.

3. Socery – South Africa’s Secret Weapon

Sorry South Africa.  It didn’t work.

4. The Ultimate Example of How Karma Works – Revenge for The Hand of Frog

Irish fans, don’t depair.  France didn’t win a single game and finished last in their group, and the players/coach had a massive fallout.  Then a ruthless press back home has given the French team a total hiding.

This must obviously be karma for the ‘Hand of Frog’ Thierry Henry did to knock Ireland out of World Cup qualifying.

Enjoy Ireland!

5. The Vuvuzela

Love it or hate it, the Vuvuzela has been the soundtrack to the World Cup.  It will probably cause irreversible industrial deafness to any fan who dare set foot inside one of the stadiums.  I wrote a piece earlier about a Funny Vuvuzela Instruction Manual someone emailed to me!

Here is a story about the Vuvuzela!

There you go.  They’re my funniest moments of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.  How about yours?  If you’ve got some, leave a comment and if you’ve got some funny photos or footage, leave a link!

If you’re only interested in Football, then I’d suggest checking out World Cup 2010: The Indispensable Guide to Soccer and Geopolitics, All the Goals of FIFA World Cup 2006 or maybe buy a World Cup 2010 Soccer Ball.

If you’re crap at Soccer, like me, check out some Soccer Drill Software!

Vuvuzelas at the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup in South Africa – Funny Instruction Manual at the Soccer

Posted on 16 June 2010 by anthony

It looks like Vuvuzelas are the latest fad to make the English Dictionary.

These are the long, plastic trumpet like devices that Football Fans are bringing into the pool matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Here is an example of what they sound like:

Anyway, with all of the Vuvuzelas being blown throughout the entirety of the match, it sounds like there are a swarm of locusts inside the stadium buzzing around.  There were calls to have the Vuvuzela band because it was annoying the billions of viewers watching the World Cup, but I’m glad they’re still allowed.

In fact, someone has even launched an application that removes the Vuvuzela sound!

Actually, I don’t mind them – but they would probably cause industrial deafness if you’re in the crowd.  But I think they should stay: it’s part of the African landscape.  It’s not as if they’re going to ban drums and singing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

In fact, Vuvuzelas are being manufactured into the colours of every competing nation.  You even buy them on Amazon!

But check out this Funny Instruction Manual someone emailed to me about the Vuvuzela.  Basically, all you need to do is blow into one of these plastic trumpets to make a loud noise.

There’s no skill needed, like having super strong lungs and musical talent, which you need to play a real trumpet.

I had a good chuck at the irony of this!

So there you go – if you have a Vuvuzela, blow away.

Elderly Sign – Funny Travel Photo from Elim, South Africa

Posted on 10 June 2010 by anthony

The Elderly Sign is this week’s Funny Travel Photo.  With the World Cup about to start (check out my post on the Funny and Offbeat Attractions of Competing Nations), here’s one from South Africa.

Jeff Jung from Career Break Secrets sent this one to me.

The Elderly Sign is from a town called Elim, in South Africa.   The town has an interesting history and was set up in the early 1800s as a missionary town.  It’s basically a one road town with no stop lights with hardly any traffic.

But, clearly the Elderly need to watch out.

I’m guessing this is because minibus taxi drivers from Southern Africa made my list of the Worst Drivers in The World!  And that’s probably why someone write this book about How To Travel Safe in South Africa.

Maybe there also needs to be a Beware of Retirees Sign erected!

Anyway, enjoy the Elderly Sign!
